a day on the beach

A relaxing day today, a short drive takes us to the most westerly point on the UK mainland where there is a lighthouse and the usual signpost proclaiming its claim to fame.

A couple of miles up the road and we spend the rest of the day on a semi-deserted beach.

We even manage a bit of a paddle in the Atlantic.

The peace is shattered by the arrival of around 200 bikers who set up camp nearby, we had seen signs saying “Antler rally this way” on the road up to the beach, however we thought this was a get together for either highland deer breeders or horn dancers.

We watched as one particularly obese biker had his other half put on his boots and socks as he was too fat too bend over and do it himself, he managed to straddle his steed without too much trouble while she (a tiny little thing in comparison) manoeuvred his bike to allow it to be pointing in the right direction for them to depart.

We drive back down the road and wildcamp for the night where we indulge ourselves with haggis and tatties accompanied surprisingly well by a 2006 merlot. A wild deer runs across the hill opposite to complete the evening.
