Snakes and Flakes

It’s like stepping back in time, walking into one of those local stores, you know the kind of thing, like Arkwrights in “open all hours” everything you could ever want or need is sold here. For the sum of £4.17 we purchased a leek, a bunch of spring onions, get this...a tub of wet wipes,( you know the sort where you lift back a tab, pull one out and the end of the next wipe is left exposed to be removed later). We’d been looking to buy some ever since I sold my Audi A3 to Jethro, I’d left mine in a compartment under the drivers seat. Having asked many a shop assistant if they stocked them, either they didn’t know what I was talking about or they told me that “nowadays sir they come in a sachet”, we’d resigned ourselves to the fact that we’d never find any. Also purchased were two yoghurts, a large packet of jellied snakes and two out of date Cadburys flakes for 20p each – bargain.

It’s the simple things in life.

Whilst waiting for the ferry to the Isle of Mull we partake of sumptuous repast. The ferry journey lasts 10 minutes and costs us £41.10 return.

On disembarking we head southwest past Torosay castle.

And Duart castle.

Through surprisingly mountainous scenery to Fionnphort where we wander for a while taking in the scenery before wildcamping outside the village.

We wonder how many people on Mull will be eating crispy duck pancakes with hoi sin sauce leeks and spring onions tonight. Just two methinks.
