A bit of wind

Following a very windy night (outside the van I hasten to add), we awake to an overcast blustery day raring to go for a day exploring the island of Iona, the birthplace of Scottish Christianity with its multitude of stone crosses and abbey. The pedestrian ferry crossing takes 10 minutes from Fionnphort on Mull, the ticket woman tells us that due to the windy conditions all other boat trips for viewing wildlife and to outlying islands such as Staffa (Fingals cave) are cancelled for the day.

After an hour of battling against the elements, taking one step forward and two backwards we retire to the harbour coffee shop where we wait to catch the next ferry back to Mull.

We drive along the western coast road of Mull stopping regularly to enjoy the view (and to let the occasional vehicle past).

Apparently the Calgary in Canada famous for its stampede is named after the village of Calgary on Mull, bet you didn’t know that !

Answer to the photo quiz has been posted in the comments section at the end of the post.
