What’s the story....

A short drive takes us to the “capital” of Mull, Tobermory, hoping to see the womble himself we set out to explore the town only to find out that it has another childrens tv association, the fictional town of Balamory was based on this place, with its coloured harbourfront buildings and castle on the hill, (can’t remember there being a whisky distillery in the childrens version either).

Walking past the shops we notice a sign in an art gallery which says

“If we are closed and you need a painting in an emergency please phone this number”

How often has anyone needed a painting in a crisis situation I wonder. Maybe to cover a chip-pan fire, or help bail out a flooded cellar, I guess the best use would be to replace a roofing slate blown off in a storm. So maybe the statement wasn’t as daft as it at first sounded.

Driving south to Fishnish we catch the ferry back to Lochaline on mainland Scotland disappointed that we never found anywhere which sold their famous wine.

Driving towards Fort William the heavens open – guess we’ve been lucky so far. Just our luck, we had planned to take the mountain cable car halfway up Ben Nevis and do some walking. The notice in the tourist information office proclaims that the cable car is closed due to high winds and bad weather, the forecast is for much of the same for the next four days.

We wildcamp south of Fort William on the shore of Loch Levan in the pouring rain.
