Inside the reasonably priced supermarket of the same name (other supermarkets are available) we decide to take advantage of what’s on offer and stock up for a few days. Wading through the numerous meat products we come across the haggis section where we are amazed to find such a concoction as a vegetarian haggis, now this beats me, is a haggis not made up of mainly the meaty internal organs of animals? surely if it wasn’t to contain the “meaty” bits it shouldn’t be called a haggis it should be called something completely different like “veggis” or “onion and potato rissole” or maybe just “shite”.
Driving through the very pleasant centre of Inverness
We pass over the Caledonian canal which links both the east and west coasts of Scotland, creating a route linking up various lochs on its way across the country.
Jo snaps a quick photo as we pass over the bridge
missed...
Soon we are driving alongside Loch Ness and arrive in the monster capital of Scotland, Drumnadrochit.
Stopping off along the way to take a few photos I am amazed when later that evening I’m cataloguing the days’ photos to discover that maybe we stumbled on something, can you spot something lurking in the second of these two photos that I took.
Just before Fort William the caledonian canal has to drop in altitude quite considerably so Thomas Telford built a series of 8 locks over a ¼ mile called Neptunes staircase. To navigate all the locks up or down by boat takes 1 ½ hours.
After a long day we wildcamp for the night just outside Glenborrodale, where we have this view across Loch Sunart.
