Uninspiring but free

This sums up John o Groats, a collection of gift shops, a closed run down hotel and the famous sign post pointing to various places has had to be removed due to vandalism, though we found this one for Jo to pose next to.

There is also on the site the last house in Scotland which is now a museum giving free entry.

Car parking is free unlike its partner at Lands End, however toilets are 20p.

and below an un-named castle.

The weather has taken a turn for the worse, strong winds and showers, probably more like what it’s supposed to do in this part of the British Isles.

We travel south to Wick to shop and lunch then head further south through pretty dull scenery in comparison to previous days views, before heading back inland at Helmsdale.

where we see some wild deer grazing on the hillside.

Fuel is pretty expensive out here in the sticks at £1.38 a litre.

We pull up for the evening in the middle of a scots pine forest next to a babbling peat stained brook.

1,556.6 miles covered since leaving Hemyock.
