It doesn’t get much better than this.......

Driving from our wildcamp this morning we get bored of tarmac roads and being told where to go by the satnav so we drive on some unmarked forest tracks.

Arriving at the Falls of Shin where there is a very impressive visitors centre which houses an outlet of Harrods complete with waxwork model of Mohammed el Fayed wearing a kilt (courtesy of Madame Tussauds) maybe they don’t know this far north that he no longer owns the “store”. Anyway off we trot to visit the falls hoping that this will be a bit of a trek in order to get some excercise, three minutes later we arrive at “the falls” only to find a bit of a trickle in comparison to some we’ve seen in the past, in fact we’ve both rafted down bigger rapids than this !.

Wondering how “the falls” can justify such a visitors centre we leave slightly disappointed. Heading south back towards Inverness we veer off east for lunch in Dingwall get ourselves a free internet connection through btfon and check the weather which just gets better and betterer, the bbc weather website gives sunny spells for today and tomorrow then suns for the rest of the week temperatures of 20 + degrees, superb....

After lunch we visit Rogie falls which are a little bit more like water falls,

however one thing catches our attention, not content with just mollycoddling us humans, the nanny state seems to have got itself involved with our Piscean friends, hundreds of thousands of pounds are being spent to create an elaborate “fish ladder” so that more salmon can reach their spawning grounds, now not only can the fittest of salmon leap the 13.5m falls to calmer waters upstream, now even obese and disabled salmon with the smallest flick of their tail fin are taken safely up above the falls with no effort required.

Continuing eastwards we pass by majestic castles.

More lochs.

Until we reach the Kyle of Lochalshe, bridging point to the Isle of Skye.

Last time I came here back in the eighties it was access via a steam ferry onto windy little single track roads, now this majestic structure spans the void connecting to motorway proportion roads all proudly built with EU funding.

We arrive in the south of Skye at our wildcamp for the evening,

with this view of the Isle Of Rum out of our bedroom window

Great weather and view, a cold beer out of the fridge, a curry for tea, Pendulum on the stereo and a free internet connection, it doesn’t get much better than this............
