The Dolomites

The mountains that is, not the car made by Triumph in the 1970’s, another car reference is the nearby town of Cortina made famous after a Ford family saloon was named after it. Although I’m not sure what the town on this road sign was named after.

This area was given to Italy for their help during the 1st world war and they immediately changed all the town names (by adding either and i or an o to the end of the original name) all the inhabitants were forced to adopt Italian names and speak Italian and all Germanic references were erased forever. Here’s some photos of the small area of this region we passed through on our way to Slovenia.

We may also have to change the name of this blog as our freezer couldn’t cope with the heat, and our supply of English tubular “meat” filled products defrosted, so we had to cook the lot and we’ve had them cold with nearly every meal for the last week.

On the whole we’re finding Italy quite frustrating, the drivers are crazy, there’s nowhere to park anything bigger than a scooter, the supermarkets don’t stock much in the way of food unless you want to buy 50 varieties of tinned tuna and even more types of coloured pasta shapes. We spent 20 minutes walking round Belluno on a Saturday night trying to find a Pizza !!.

However it is Beautiful and we are supposed to like Italy.
Let’s see what Slovenia brings.
