Castles

A quick visit to the old Roman spa town of Sao Pedro de Sul

and its on to the town of Vouzela which gave its name to a wind instrument widely used at the South African world cup.

Heading north

we arrive at Trancoso with the majority of its old city walls still intact.

After lunch its through the village of Ferreirim

and Antas which is famous for its megolithic burial chambers.

Our final port of call Penedona wins first prize in the “most impressive castle that looks like a castle in Portugal competition”

We pass through some more stunning scenery

and stop for the night in a free motorhome park in the village of Freixo de Numao where we are joined later by a French and two Portugese vehicles, and some locals playing football on the patch of ground next to us. Mmmm, think we’ll stick to wildcamping !!.
