We awake to blue skies and sunshine following breakfast we head off into the village of Rio de Onor the Portugese half has granite cobble streets and ramshackle buildings, the Spanish half has tarmac roads and modern looking buildings, there are also two churches and both sets of church bells compete to be the loudest.
There's a stone pillar which marks the border with a P for Portugal on one side and E for Espanha (Spain) on the other.
We head south through some quaint medieval looking villages which show no modern trappings of life
we saw this contraption for getting water out of a well.
We pass through Outeiro with its dinstinctive mountain
before we arrive in the border town of Miranda do Douro overlooking the Douro river gorge.
We were planning to do a river cruise here (the best way to view the gorge) and park in town and go to a restaurant for the famous Posta a Mirandesa (a succulent steak dish). However, best made plans and all that, The river cruise wasn’t running today, the car park was being re-cobbled and the restaurants were only open for lunch, so we have a wander round then leave. Heading southwest we pass through some amazing scenery and villages,
one has a house with a blue tiled exterior.
Orange and lemon trees are everywhere.
Heading off down a side road to find somewhere to park up for the night we come across this valley with almond trees all in blossom as far as the eye can see,
we park up by a stream as the sun sets.
