After a night in probably the roughest campsite in Europe, they had security guards patrolling all night and even the police made the occasional drive through, a really strange place next to a pond in the middle of town.
The weather has turned as grim as the buildings.
One thing that is noticeable as we drive through villages are the leftovers from communism like the loudspeakers on alternate lamp-posts which used to broadcast motivational songs spurring on the comrades to get into the fields toiling away all day, these days I guess they are used by tesco and lidl to announce 50 cents off turnips.
So we decide we have seen enough of Slovakia and head back to Hungary through an area known as the Danube bend which follows the river all the way down to Budapest.
The Slovakian roads are slow going, it’s as though you’re driving a vehicle with square wheels, so it is quite a relief when we cross the border into Hungary at Esztergom,
which has a huge basilica, the 3rd largest church in Europe.
The interior is quite elaborate too
And holds the largest painting on a single canvas in the world
We climb the stairs to the top of the cupola which is well worth it for the views of the city and beyond.
Next town with a thing to see is Visegrad, which has a ruined citadel high above the Danube, once again the views are amazing.
The artists town of Szentendre is our next stop where we decide to park up for the night down by the river with 3 French motorhomes.
The town is a warren of small streets, full of cafes, bars and tourist tat shops,
it is picturesque though and one building in particular holds one of the reasons we came, the micro art museum which is a room filled with microscopes focused in on some very elaborate microscopic artworks, mostly crafted in gold.
We tried to photograph some but they didn’t come out very well, this one is a full chess set with all the pieces made of gold on top of a pinhead. Here's a link to his work http://microart.kiev.ua/en/galery.html
