Turtle bay and away

You have to see the photos of this place, it’s a beach called turtle beach which is only accessible by boat from the main island resorts, totally undeveloped and an egg laying site for leatherback turtles between May and November, it ranks in our top ten of best beaches in the world.

Later on in the day a trek through the jungle interior of the island from west to east coast

takes us to another amazing beach.

It’s now time to leave after three relaxing days and some excellent food.

We take the local bus from Kuala Besut to Kuala Terengganu down the east coast road

and arrive in the very strictly muslim city and capital of the region. After checking in to the citipoint hotel and a much needed rest from the heat we take a stroll along the waterfront for sunset

and have dinner in a restaurant on the jetty followed by a walk past the durian market
( I never knew there were so many different types ranging from 7rm to 24 rm per kilo.)

and through chinatown

Back at the hotel there’s a sign declaring their hatred for the fruit,

but the stuff is everywhere

Quite a cheap day with a bus trip of 120km, lunch x2, dinner x2, 1 beer 1 soft drink and hotel with aircon and free wifi, total 175rm (£35). Also noticed a mobile phone package advertised unlimited internet, phone calls and texts at 5 sen per day (about 1p).

We like Malaysia.
