The day starts with a walk to the giants causeway which is surprisingly free to visit, normally you have to pay £6 to park but due to works going on the car parks are closed so we park behind some houses nearby. The rock formations aren't as big as you imagine it to be and due to landslides over the last couple of hundred years it isn’t as impressive as it used to be, earlier pictures of it show a lot more exposed rock formations than are now visible.
Further along the coast is a rope bridge linking the mainland and a small rock,
from the viewpoint you get views of sheep island
and across the north channel is Scotland and the Mull of Kintyre.
We decide to leave the coastline for a diversion inland to visit Loch Neagh, the largest lake in the UK, however we can’t get near it no matter how many roads we go down, what’s the point in having a lake that size if you can’t get anywhere near it !
we were hoping to stop for the night here but as there is nowhere we head south east to the Mourne mountains passing through some very grim towns such as Portadown and Banbridge, not daring to stop in case we get our wheels stolen we continue on into the mountains where we find a spot for the night overlooking Spelga reservoir.
(Must try and find a pikey town avoidance app. for the satnav when we get home).
