Leaving Anglesey by the newer bridge we arrive at Swallow falls near the inland resort town of Betws-y-coed which surprisingly for Wales has a small layby where you can park for free within walking distance of the falls which costs £1.50 to visit by means of 99 steps.
Continuing south we pass the grey town of Blaenau Ffffestiniog with its slate mines.
A detour east for a visit to lake Bala
Further south to a just as grey Dolgellau through some uninteresting countryside to Mallwyd, continuing on our journey not finding anywhere appealing to park for the night so we end up spending the night in the car park of the Talkhouse restaurant at Pontdolgoch.
Where we indulge ourselves with an evening of good food and wine.
