Bako National Park a Bornean jungle

A short bus and boat ride

and we arrive in Bako national park where we have booked to stay the night in a chalet near the park headquarters.

We set off for a couple of hours trek in search of whatever we can find, most of the tracks are clearly marked and some even have boardwalks through tricky areas so even the un-fittest of us can walk for some way.

The jungle is stunning and the scenery changes round every corner

we spot a troupe of macaques feeding

and a rather ferocious looking spider guarding the trail

a river of ants crossing the trail

and carnivorous pitcher plants alongside it

eventually we find some proboscis monkeys who put on a bit of a display for us.

Back down at the beach

we spot a jellyfish stranded at low tide

and a hermit crab passes by

we relax for a few hours in the heat of the day on the verandah.

Just as a bearded pig passes through.

Next day and we’re back in Kuching to make plans for getting to Sibu by boat then travel up the Renang river to Kapit then to Belaga and then on to Bintulu and Miri. That should keep us busy for a few days.
