The boat north and the most northerly point of europe

A buffet breakfast and we’re off out into the town for a browse, we only have a couple of hours before the boat docks and we can check in for the next part of our voyage north.

Lunch is a costly affair, two steaks and two fish and chips, four beers comes to nearly two hundred pounds, everything here is very pricy.

Departing on the boat we leave the metropolis of Tromso and the northern lights come out to play giving us with a spectacular show lasting for the next three hours. The captain and crew provide entertainment in the form of an informal lecture on the process, exportation and tasting of dried cod !!

After a boat rocking, engine vibration filled night we awake to find ourselves pulling into the port of Havoysund a small fishing community miles from anywhere. The passengers are invited to visit the bridge where we can learn all about our boat the MS Lofoten,

an enjoyable and informative part of the day before we pull into the port of Honningsvag where we have booked a coach excursion to take us to the Northern Cape which is the most northern point of Europe. After a 45 minute drive through stunning scenery very similar to being in a desert surrounded by towering dunes, although I can assure you it’s a lot colder, we arrive at our destination

we take part in the ritualistic activity of a photo at the monument

before ducking back inside as the wind whips up the snow

back down in Honningsvag we spot some ice sculptures

back on the boat we cruise out of town and head west.

An announcement over the ships tannoy informs us that we have some visitors on board, local fisherman have brought their catch of the day to show us

we get the chance to eat some crab caviar and to hold the 3kg King crabs

as we pass the most northern point of our journey we crack open a bottle of champagne which has been chilling out on deck for the last hour.

After dinner we spend the rest of the evening watching the northern lights.

I receive a text from Justin on holiday in Tenerife informing us that it is 26 degrees by the pool, it's closer to minus 26 here.
