an eiffel

We went Lebanese for our Christmas day meal, for the only reason that we could.
The day starts with a breakfast of coffee and pancakes followed by a metro ride to the other side of paris where we decide to catch a bus back along the rive droit ending up at the hotel de ville or town hall in English.

from here we walk back towards the Seine where the plan is to walk back to the Eiffel tower

It looks as though the water level is quite high, I guess due to the melting snow, we spy this unlucky motorist who parked in the museum d'orsay car park before the river flooded, on further inspection we notice he's been given a parking ticket for overstaying.

Stopping off for lunch before taking a boat trip back down the river.

after passing under bridges and past buildings we end up back at the big metally thing

time is now 15:15 so we decide to head towards the tower  with a view to getting to the top while its still light. However there is the biggest queue we have encountered since Tesco had a shortage of spaghetti hoops back in 1987, two hours later and we're being hurtled skywards at an alarming rate before being hustled out into a narrow corridor which clings precariously to the top of the rusting hulk, I'm sure that it wasn't intended for three hundred obese mainly American and European tourists to be jumping up and down on it. By now it's dark so views aren't what we were expecting

the more I think about the effects of the weather and rust on metallic structures and the extra weight being applied to such a small surface area the more uneasy I become, so after another long wait we descend back to street level where the tower is lit for all to admire.

After a short metro ride we're back on the Champs d' Elysees where we take a look at the seasonal illuminations.

back to the hotel, a quick shower and out for dinner, Japanese this time. Good night.
