A sense of calm comes over us as we enter France again,
passing first through Menton (again)
and Monte-Carlo (again)
Monaco (yes again)
the first thing we notice are parking spaces, so because we can, we pull over into one for a few minutes to plan our route to Castellane gateway to the Gorge de Verdon.
Before lunch in Grasse we ditch the unsalted Italian bread we had bought by mistake and buy a proper French loaf.
Arriving in Castellane at 2pm and parking up in an aire du camping car, 6 euros gives us 24 hours parking and access to water and drainage facilities. After a wander round the old town we find a restaurant that has a 25 euro menu that will do nicely for this evening.
aptly named “Chappelle de Notre dame du roc”, it’s a good 40 mins walk up a very well maintained footpath to reach a chapel that’s open I take loads of photos
I ring the chapel bell and sign the visitors book before descending back to the van.
Here's the view from our bedroom window.
A quick shower and relax and its off out to the restaurant, this time the one we had chosen because of its menu was open, a very nice meal which was inexpensive compared to the others we had had further south, we leave the restaurant just as the heavens open to a massive downpour which lasts the rest of the evening until we fall asleep.
