Marshmallows and messing around in boats

A very rare opportunity – a calm, dry, and clear evening and as we’re parked up on the shores of the Usk reservoir we make the most of it by lighting a small fire, toasting some marshmallows and skimming stones on the lake with the kids.

The next day dawns and it’s a little cloudy but dry and it’s off to the big city of bright lights that is Brecon to attempt the impossible - get an internet connection. As suspected this fails so having pre-booked a half day self drive boat trip on the river the day before we make our way to the canal basin to take charge of our boat.

The electric powered craft with a top speed of about 4mph takes us downstream to a lock which we master with little effort although the highlight of this was a woman falling into the canal off the boat that left a couple of minutes before us as they attempted to moor up, we rushed to her assistance and she was soon back on dry land having had her half day cruise ruined. (sadly no photos of the moment exist).

Ten minutes downstream from the lock and we cross an aqueduct

and turn round for our journey back through the lock and upstream back to Brecon.

Fish and chips round off a top day out.

That evening the heavens open preventing any further marshmallow fun.

Thursday and we leave Justin, Chrissy, Louie and Rosa to continue on their Welsh holiday and we head back to Taunton to start the next batch of Jo’s treatment.
