A tube journey to the old village area of Montmatre followed by a short funicular ride up to the sacre coeur.
A quick tour round the interior whilst a service is being held before leaving to find its started raining.
A stroll round to the nearby Place du Tertre where we have to run the gauntlet of a hundred out of work artists touting for business, they will draw you, paint you in any media you care to dream of, in still life as a caricature, or a silhouette. We dodge into a small cafe and take a table for a hot lunch of onion soup, steak au poivre, and mousse au chocolat. (unbeknown to us, this is the last hot meal we have for quite some time)By the time we leave its stopped raining so we head off down a side street where we find the Dali museum which is a very surreal experience.
Dazed and confused by what we've seen we leave Montmatre and walk downhill into the red light district of Pigalle where we sit for a while outide the Moulin Rouge.
We spot one of those tourist trains that seem to populate most French places of interest and embark on a 30 minute tour round the area seeing some things we wouldn't have otherwise noticed, such as this shop.
Can't begin to think what goes on in there.
A short tube ride takes us back to the Opera area where our hotel is situated. Its still a bit early to go off to the airport so we stroll round the Grand boulevards which is the main shopping area for the designer shops in Paris. After no time at all it's 6pm and time to get our luggage from the hotel and head off to Orly airport and catch our flight back to Southampton.
